In her teens Shell Perris overcame school bullies, low self-esteem and a life-threatening eating disorder. Today her Christian faith gives her life purpose. Her passion is to let others know of God’s love.

Shell’s bubbly personality and musical talent gives her a head start when it comes to getting her message across. She is a gifted communicator, radio show host, singer, song- writer and author.

‘Have you heard’, her latest album features her contemporary ‘rock chick’ sound and comes with a Bonus DVD. Anthems sit side by side with soothing ballads guaranteed to keep playing in your head! Shell’s now working on a new album due out in October.

Next month, The Restored Tour sees Shell team up with evangelist and former drug addict Barry Woodward. The event is a combination of storytelling by Barry and music by Shell. Each has a great story to tell so check out www.shellperris.com or www.proclaimtrust.org for tour details.

‘God has called me to be a healer of broken hearts,’ Shell believes. But what did this mean for her as a 16-year-old schoolgirl? Looking back she says:

‘More than anything, I wanted to write songs that reflect God’s love in a very real and relevant way.’

‘I left home at 17 to join Innervation Trust school band called Collective based on Merseyside.

The job entailed going into primary schools, taking lessons, workshops with a concert at the end of each week.’

Shell said some responded positively to the message, others chose not to. ‘But,’ she says, ‘they always finished the week knowing more about the Christian message and having been told about God’s unconditional love for them.’

‘Our lessons were a lot to do with identity and self-esteem. I used to tell my story. No one could deny the experiences I had been through. “And God came to you in the middle of that!” That would blow their minds away!’

And what reaction did your parents have to your faith?

‘It’s had an incredible impact on my family. My mum and dad weren’t Christians and God has totally transformed their lives. If God can do it in them, he can do it in anyone!’

After 18 months with Collective Shell was chosen to join the Trust’s touring girl band tbc. Their concerts and CDs made a huge impact on their young audiences.

After three years on the road with tbc, a solo career was the obvious next step for Shell.

‘I find songwriting an amazing way of using the experiences that God has put me through to maybe help other people who are going through similar things.’

‘I have to make sure I have a really strong support network in place. A lot of people think that it is glamorous being on stage but that’s about ten per cent of the time! The rest of it is really hard work.’

Shell is supported by her husband Tim, a loving church fellowship and mentors to advise and counsel her.

‘And that’s one of the things I want to get across with the book (‘Made to be Me’).

‘I am an ordinary girl but I serve an extraordinary God and because of that and the way he is transforming me, I have the privilege of leading an extraordinary life. All the glory well and truly belongs to God.

‘Don’t forget my radio show!’
Shell says at the end! ‘I’ve been doing the show for six months called “Girls night in”. I’ve a co-host and there’s chat, music and fun.’

‘You can log on to www.crossrhythms.co.uk anywhere in the world and hear my show on Tuesday nights (9.00 till 9.30pm).’

Shell is not to be missed so there’s no excuse not to listen out for more.
